According to Dr. Angeles Arrien, in many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions:
When did you stop dancing?
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?

Where we have stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul. Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are considered to be the four universal healing salves according to Dr. Arrien. In this  daylong workshop we will use the power of Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Positive Psychology to explore all four and experience the difference between functioning and flourishing.

Beginning the morning with a powerful, fluid and creative Vinyasa Flow Yoga practice, we will remind ourselves of the power of movement and dance and its ability to help us feel alive and connected. In the afternoon we will experience the power of singing as we move through mantra and sound to help dislodge that which weighs heavy on our hearts.

Mercedes will then discuss the Positive Psychology findings around Flow and the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and why the happiest people are shown to be those who experience Flow states on a regular basis. Using Positive Psychology interventions, we will partner up and become enchanted by each other’s stories and then coach each other towards our strengths in various yoga poses.

Finally to end the day Mercedes will move the group through meditation and breath work and experience the comfort of the sweet sound of silence…

4th – 8th May 2016 Yeotox Collaboration with Phil Howard

Our first collaboration retreat of 2016 was a delicious one! From 4th – 8th May we welcomed to Yeotown as our co-host, ‘the Chef’s Chef’ Phil Howard. Phil‘s list of culinary accolades is not only studded with two Michelin stars, he has also worked alongside Marco Pierre White at Harvey’s, Simon Hopkinson at Bibendum and is the head chef and co-owner (with Nigel Platts-Martin) of the hugely successful The Square in Mayfair. Phil has also appeared on The Great British Menu, Saturday Kitchen and Masterchef and has written two critically acclaimed cookbooks.
During the five-day long retreat, we enjoyed all the usual life-affirming activities of our Yeotox programme (coastal hikes, daily yoga, fitness, juices and massages) and were treated at the end of the day to fabulous food made by our wonderful co-host and Michelin star chef. Phil and his wife Jen’s approachable and friendly nature really made for a quite special retreat filled with lots of laughter, delicious recipes and inspiring cooking lessons. We so enjoyed our retreat with Phil we plan to make it an annual event!

In September 2015 double Olympic gold medallist in cycling Victoria Pendleton CBE co-hosted a five day Yeotox with us during which she shared the secrets behind her success with motivational talks on her training and nutrition plans. She worked out, hiked, surfed and yoga’d with our guests and of course led them on an epic 50 mile cycle route known locally as ‘The Beast’. Victoria is such an engaging and down to earth character and we were thrilled to have collaborated with such a dynamic, determined individual.

In June we teamed up with Red Bull Sponsored Elite Athlete and Big Wave Surf Champion Andrew Cotton to deliver our Live Life Big Yeotox. Andy brought his own brand of motivation and inspiration to our guests who discovered what it takes to don your wetsuit and paddle out in eighty foot waves! Over the course of his programme our lucky guests did get to try their hand at some surfing at our beautiful local beaches and got the chance to be taught surfing by one of the world’s leading big wave surf champions. A big honor indeed!

In May we teamed up with Alkaline eating chef and author Natasha Corrett which gave our lucky guests the chance to enjoy delicious recipes and menus devised by founder of ‘Honestly Healthy’, Natasha herself. It was a particularly tasty retreat where not only did Natasha whip some of the most delightful dinners she also lead in-depth cooking lessons where out thrilled guests got the chance to learn how to make healthy yet yummy meals of their own.
