Wellbeing Rituals in a time filled with screens

If you are like us you may be finding Zoom fatigue setting in and craving real-life group interactions and experiences to resume once again. That being said it is more important than ever during this time to make sure we set boundaries for ourselves and create small rituals to keep care of our physical and mental health. One of the key things we can do for our wellbeing right now, wherever we may be in the world, is to get outside. Even on dull, grey, cold days (especially on dull, grey, cold days!), it’s important to get some fresh air, move our bodies a bit and change the scenery. Even a short 20-minute stroll can work wonders for our mood.

With a lot of our lives having moved online, it is also important to be conscious of our screen time. For many, it has doubled or even tripled over the course of the past year putting extra strain on our bodies and wellbeing. On that note, there are a few simple rituals we should do every 30 minutes or so when we find ourselves in front of our screens for an extended period of time to ensure we are keeping care of our wellbeing when spending a lot of time online.

3 Wellbeing Rituals to Use During Screen Time:

  1. Rub your hands very quickly against one another, until the friction creates a strong heat. Close your eyes then cup them with your palms, placing the base of the palm gently over the eyelids. Take 5 deep, slow breaths
  2. Grab a pen or pencil or something similar and hold it in front of your eyes. Move the pen slowly away from you and back again a few times, keeping your eyes solely focused on it. Then move the pen around in a circle, again letting your eyes follow it without moving your head. Just use your eyes as you circle it clockwise a few times then counterclockwise. Make sure to breathe steady and deep.
  3. Close your eyes and gently begin to tap your face. Relax your jaw, cheeks and lips and just gently tap all around your face including your temples, forehead.

If you’d like to watch our video of the above in action, see below.

A little slice of paradise! Broadsands beach is a little cove just outside of Combe Martin, here in north Devon. It's often described as a secret beach as many are not prepared to hike down the 220 steps (some of which have crumbled away, others look more than a little suspicious) to reach it. For those that do, they are rewarded with beautiful scenery, wildlife and often a beach entirely to themselves! Just perfect on a lovely day like yesterday 🌊☀️ 127 7
What a difference a day makes! Yesterday the weather here went from what had been freezing temperatures to a practically tropical 10° ☀️ A beautiful day to get outside and enjoy spotting the signals that spring is on it's way... the first daffodils 🌼, little buds on trees and the sweet sound of birdsong 🐦🥰 123 1
